You have an almost limitless array of options, unless your tastes range to four star hotels. In that case, alas, the nearest ones are in Anchorage, approximately an hour and a half away.
This site has compiled some really great places to stay near Palmer, the city that will be nearest the wedding. When booking your accommodations, definitely keep in mind what the distance to the wedding location itself is, which is approximately here. Use that to calculate driving distance.
Here are some other recommendations
Camping: For the duration of the wedding (day before, night of, and following day) camping will be available at the the wedding venue: Gray Owl Farm. Running water and toilets will be provided. There are other numerous campgrounds in the area if you would like to strike out on your own or do some exploring. Some official examples:
Matanuska River Park – the closest official campground, with some decent amenities. Can be a little buggy, but by August that should have cleared up nicely.
Matanuska Lakes (Kepler Bradley) – during the busy season, Kepler Bradley can get a bit crowded, but it has some lovely camping sites and is directly on some of the best walking/hiking trails in the area. If swimming, picnicking, or walking through hay fields surrounded by mountain vistas are your thing, check this out whether you plan to camp there or not.
AirBnB
Michael and I have successfully used AirBnB on our adventures and recommend it for folks looking to stay in Alaska on a budget. Make sure to look at reviews to get a good feel for the place you’re staying.
Colony Inn
Located in the heart of historic Palmer, Colony Inn is a cute, quaint hotel that–while not giving you world-class accommodations–will provide you with a little historical zest from Palmers’ glory days. You can also find them on Yelp and Google+.
Bed and Breakfasts
Alaska is positively awash in bed and breakfasts with a variety of different experiences available. We linked to one of the best databases, and there are many out there. We don’t have a personal recommendation from experience at this time, but if anyone has them, please feel free to share!
Ridiculously generous friends
We have several friends up on Lazy Mountain who have graciously opened their doors to our out of state guests. Please feel free to call us to learn more about the variety of options we may have for you if you’d like to guest-room crash for a few days with our friends. Remember guests and fish stink after three days. I’m sorry to say that our house will be plumb full with the a of the Adsit Clan, so we will not be able to house you at our humble abode.
Places we must regretfully avoid recommending
Valley Hotel, Eagle Hotel, Alaska Choice Inn Motel, Pioneer Motel. All of these hotels are in downtown Palmer, and are practically institutions by now. While stays there can be okay, they can also be not okay, and you’ll certainly be happier with one of the other options.
